Three grand tour inspired cycling jerseys, made with remnant silk, mohair and wool. The Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España athletic events all have a rich color branding history.
The Brandt-Sorenson giro jersey has various shades of remnant pink fabrics, using mohair, wool and some modal. The fabric scrap colors reference the many hues and tints of pink jerseys used over the years to define the Giro d'Italia brand.
The Brandt-Sorenson 1903 Tour de France Pure Silk and Pure Wool jersey is made from a remnant rib knit and off-cut fabric scraps. This ultra soft knit is a blend of silk, nature’s strongest fiber, and soft wool. Both are natural bio-degradable fibers which offer superior hygroscopic and odor resistant performance for athletes. The hand cut 1903 typography is a nod to the first year of the Tour de France event, with a green silk arm brassard as was worn by the race leaders.
The classic TDF yellow wool jersey was introduced in 1919 because journalists could not easily see the green arm brassard. 1903 marked the beginning of the Tour De France event, created by a former professional athlete and small business owner to promote his newspaper L'Auto. In 1903 fine silk and wool textiles were in vogue with Parisian couture houses, and the world would not see synthetic plastic polyester until 1951.
The pure silk Brandt-Sorenson Vuelta jersey is made with gold and blood red remnant fabrics. The Vuelta a España event was also created to promote a newspaper, the Spanish Informaciones, in 1935. Since then the Vuelta a España event has gone through 8 different color brand identities, the most recent being solid yellow followed by solid red. The Brandt-Sorenson jersey has a soft springy hand and a distinct glow unique to silk.
